New Vision, New MLA
Born in Vancouver, Matthew has spent his entire life in the Lower Mainland. He moved to New Westminster 6 years ago and now lives in the Quayside area with his partner Mia.
Since moving to New Westminster he's quickly become involved with the community: from being a founding member of New Westminster Environmental Partners to serving as vice-president of the Quayside Community Board. He's become known as someone who likes to take on a new challenge and just can't say no to getting involved in community activities.
With a proven record of leadership and a reputation for progressive ideas, Matthew wants to put the issues of sustainable transportation choices, renewable energy generation, and innovation, not privatization as a solution to our healthcare crisis on the agenda in Victoria.
Matthew has a degree in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia and has worked both in private industry and public sector. Currently he works in bioinformatics research at Simon Fraser University where he's been an author on numerous publications.
Working hard to strive for a sustainable lifestyle, Matthew can often be spotted on the local buses or walking as his primary mode of transportation. He was part of the first group to join New Westminster.s worm composter program and strives to reduce his environmental footprint wherever he can.
Additionally, Matthew is a strong proponent of the B.C. Single-Transferable Vote (BC-STV), and will be campaigning in favour of BC-STV in the coming provincial referendum.
On Tuesday, May 12, elect an innovative and dynamic MLA for British Columbia's Royal City. Vote for Matthew Laird
